What is Stealth Tracer & how does it work?

Stealth Tracer is designed to be a GPS asset locator that performs as an ‘interval tracker’. Interval tracking, often referred to as "sleeper" mode, is a feature of our GPS asset tracking device that allows it to remain dormant for set periods of time and only activate at predefined intervals to send location updates. This makes the device virtually undetectable by thieves using GPS scanning tools, as it emits no signal when in sleep mode. It also extends the battery life, compared to other battery-powered GPS trackers that need to be retrieved and recharged as often as every two weeks.

Interval Tracking

What is interval tracking?

Interval tracking is when a device reports its location periodically per its configured intervals. In between its interval location updates, it 'sleeps', not emitting any GPS signal. It allows a small internal battery to last for a number of years & provides resistance to thieves trying to GPS wand your asset to find the device.

How does an interval tracking device avoid detection by GPS scanning tools?

The device operates on a low-power, intermittent signal transmission basis. When in its 'sleep' state between its location reports, it does not emit any GPS signal, making it invisible to GPS scanning "wands" commonly used by thieves to locate trackers. It only emits a signal for under 1minute at the set intervals to transmit its location update, reducing the risk of detection.

What is the preset location reporting interval of the Stealth Tracer device?

The Stealth Tracer device comes pre-configured to report its location 2 times every 24hrs.

Can I change the location reporting interval?

Yes, you can change the device's location reporting interval to report into the app: 1, 3, 4, or 6 times per 24hrs. Please remember that increasing the frequency reduces the battery life of your device.

Installation

Does the Stealth Tracer require professional installation?

No, the Stealth Tracer is designed to be self-installed. It's an easy, wire-free installation as the device is battery powered. It only requires you to covertly fit the device in your asset, while ensuring the device can still get GPS signal. For further information on installation, please see our digital user guide.

Does the Stealth Tracer come with any fixings to aid installation in assets?

Yes, your device will come with two types of sticky pads & 2x heavy duty releasable cable ties. We recommend you use both where possible.

Can I move my Stealth Tracer device from one asset to another?

Yes, you can reassign the asset within the app & move it to any asset you wish to protect. You can purchase additional fixings to do this on our shop.

Can I get my device professionally fitted?

We currently don't yet offer pro-fit, but you can contact any local auto electrician or garage to assist you with covertly hiding the unit by safely removing panels.

Device Setup

What does the Stealth Tracer device pair to?

The Stealth Tracer device pairs to our iOS or Android mobile apps. You then simply switch on your device & follow the quick signup/pairing process.

Will the Stealth Tracer device immediately report into the app when you switch it on?

No, the Stealth Tracer device will first report into your app within 24hrs of switching it on. It will always first report in at 9AM or 9PM per its factory configuration. Your app dashboard's map will show blank & update countdown times will be incorrect until the device first reports in its location. Please wait for your first push notification within 24hrs of switching the device on.

Can I setup multiple devices on one app/account?

Yes, the Stealth Tracer app allows you to pair as many devices as you wish to your account. You will be able to view information about each individual device on the dashboard, along with a collective view on the all asset map.

Can I use the button on the front of the Stealth Tracer device to turn it off when the app is not in use?

No, once you have switched on the Stealth Tracer device as part of your initial device setup, the button on the front of the device cannot be used to switch it off. This is so you can't accidentally switch off the device when installing it into your asset or other accidental contact with the device. If you wish for your device to be fully disabled - please use our support page form to make the request.

Location Reporting/Device Capabilities

How accurate is the GPS location reported by my device? 

Our device uses advanced GPS technology to provide location accuracy within a few meters.

Where will the device struggle to get GPS signal?

In certain locations, such as underground car parks or in certain types of building structures, your device may be unable to transmit its location until it is next able to lock onto a satellite and/or regain cellular coverage. This is a common characteristic of all tracking devices that rely on GPS.

Will my device be able to report its location every single time it wakes up per my intervals?

The Stealth Tracer uses a global roaming sim card that allows it to connect to any network. However, there will be instances where the device won't be able to get a cellular connection. Network coverage in certain areas can be unpredictable & the device only has a certain window to quickly get signal when it wakes up to report its location before going back to sleep in its undetectable state.

Does the device always report on the exact minute I configured it to?

Your device can report exactly on the minute you configured it to. But it sometimes may take an extra 1-5mins to transmit its GPS location fix in low signal/high network traffic areas. The report times being slightly varied also aids us to be less predictable to thieves!

Is the Stealth Tracer device waterproof?

Yes, it is IP67 rated. An IP67 rating means a device is completely dust-tight and can withstand immersion in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of up to 1 meter.

The Stealth Tracer App

Is the app free to use?

Yes, the app is free to download & there is no subscription required to use Stealth Tracer.

Where do I download the app from?

You can download the app from the iOS App store or the Android Google Play Store. The app is optimised for mobile devices, tablets are not currently supported. Creating an account is completely free if you have purchased a Stealth Tracer device.

Can I have my app/account on more than one mobile device?

Yes, we allow you to log into the your app account on multiple mobile devices.

Theft Mode & Stealth Sentinel Recoveries

What happens when I put my device into Theft Mode?

In the event of a theft, simply switch your device into ‘Theft Mode’ on the app dashboard. Theft Mode will be activated at the time of your nearest next Scheduled Location Update. When your device ‘wakes up’ for its next scheduled location update, it will receive the command for Theft Mode. Once Theft Mode is activated, your app will stop displaying your asset’s location for your own personal safety as recovering stolen property is best left in the hands of professionals. In Theft Mode, the device reports its location every 5 minutes to our Stealth Sentinel theft monitoring and recovery team, who will take you through the vital next steps over the phone.

Why won't I be able to see the location of my asset in Theft Mode?

At Stealth Tracer, we strongly believe recovering stolen assets is best left in the hands of professionals to ensure your safety. In Theft Mode, your device will report its location every 5 minutes to our Stealth Sentinel theft monitoring and recovery team, who will take you through the next steps once you connect with them through the app. You will have the choice of our Stealth Sentinel team liaising with your local Police force to attempt the recovery for no added cost, or activating our front line Sentinel team to go out to make an asset recovery attempt.

Am I guaranteed to get my asset back if it is stolen?

Subject to your authorisation of the costs associated with the attempted recovery of your asset by our Stealth Sentinel team, we will apply all reasonable endeavours to recover & return your asset. However, there will be circumstances in which it is not physically possible to make the recovery & in these situations, we will offer no guarantee, indemnity, refund of activation fee nor compensation for any resulting losses. You also be liable to pay the full recovery fee that was quoted to you at the time you gave authorisation for the recovery attempt.

Does activating the Stealth Sentinel team to attempt a recovery mean that the Police will not attempt to recover my stolen asset?

Not at all - as with any crime, it is crucial to alert your local Police force if you believe a theft has occurred - and you must do this before you activate Theft Mode in app or contact our Sentinel team. The Police will give you a Crime Reference Number, which you will need to give to our Sentinel team once you make contact, and this will also be needed should you go on to make an insurance claim. The Stealth Sentinel team work closely with Police forces across the UK and they are often requested by our team to be present when seizing stolen goods back for repatriation.



Will attempting a recovery via the Stealth Sentinel team affect my ability to claim on my insurance if my stolen asset is unrecoverable?

No– if your asset is unrecoverable, should you have insurance cover for it you will be able to make a claim in the usual fashion. Your insurance company will no doubt request a Police Crime Reference Number, which we advise you obtain the moment you believe your asset has been stolen.



Subscriptions - Stealth Sentinel

What does the subscription provide me with?

If an asset fitted with a Stealth Tracer device is ever stolen, our Stealth Sentinel monitoring & repatriation team are there to assist with the the recovery attempt of your asset. Should you choose to have our Stealth Sentinel team attempt a recovery, you will need to pay the activation fee to deploy their agents. The activation fee will be discounted or removed entirely, depending on which Stealth Sentinel subscription you have taken out. Do I need to have a subscription to use the Stealth Tracer device or access our Stealth Sentinel asset recovery service?

No, there is no mandatory subscription to be able to use the Stealth Tracer device. You also don't need to be a Stealth Sentinel subscriber to access our Stealth Sentinel stolen asset monitoring & recovery service (exclusive to Stealth Tracer device owners). The subscription reduces the associated fees (plus other benefits) should you wish to deploy our team to recover your asset.

Connectivity / Sim

Do I need to purchase a sim for my Stealth Tracer device?

No, your Stealth Tracer device will come with a pre-installed sim that is locked to your device. The sim will last the whole way through your device's life.

Are there any monthly data charges?

No, your purchase of the Stealth Tracer will cover the data costs of your device until it's battery runs out.

Battery Life

How long does the battery last in interval tracking mode?

The battery life depends on the tracking interval you select. For example, if the device is set to update every 12 hours as per our factory configuration, the battery can last between 24-26 months. If you configure your device to report more frequently, the battery life will be shorter. Please refer to the table in the full digital user guide which will inform you of expected battery life for higher frequency location reports. Please remember if you change away from the factory interval, you'll lose the 2 year battery life warranty.

Do environmental conditions affect battery life?

Yes, as with all batteries, their performance can be affected by the environmental conditions (high/low temperature, humidity etc..). This means all our expected battery life figures are estimations based on average environmental conditions.

Does the Stealth Tracer Asset Locator have a Thatcham certification?

Yes it does, our device & monitoring/recovery service is Thatcham S7 certified.

What benefits does the device & monitoring/recovery service being Thatcham S7 certified provide?

Thatcham S7 certification is an industry-recognised standard for vehicle and asset tracking systems, ensuring that they meet stringent security and reliability requirements. Many insurers recognise Thatcham S7 certified trackers and may offer lower premiums or even mandate them for high-value assets or vehicles. This can lead to significant cost savings on your insurance.
